A parking barrier, or barrier gate, is an automatic arm commonly found in parking areas. Barrier gates are typically used in malls, stations, hospitals, apartments, supermarkets, and residential complexes. So what is the function of a parking barrier? Read on in this article.

Functions of an automatic parking barrier

In general, an automatic parking barrier serves as the gate arm of a parking system, or as a barrier at the entrance and exit of a parking area.

An automatic parking system can improve security in the parking area, because every vehicle entering and leaving the area can be monitored.

Components of an automatic parking barrier

A parking barrier needs supporting components for it to work optimally. These include a ticket dispenser, or ticket printing machine, connected to a computer system.

When a driver wants to enter the parking area, they press the ticket button, which then dispenses a ticket. The ticket must be kept until the driver leaves the parking area.

The machine then commands the barrier to open automatically. The barrier closes automatically only when no metal is detected, because this automatic barrier is fitted with a metal detector.

Besides the ticket dispenser, the parking gate usually also has a CCTV camera that records vehicle license plates. At the exit, a parking attendant is stationed in an operator booth.

How an automatic parking barrier works

At the entrance, when a vehicle arrives at the parking area, the Loop Detector sensor sends a signal to the controller. The driver then authenticates by pressing the button, and the barrier control reads the driver's authentication.

Next, the software on the computer system takes a photo, performs check-in, prints the ticket, and commands the barrier to open. The vehicle then passes through the automatic barrier.

The Loop Detector sensor then sends information to the automatic barrier that the vehicle has cleared the barrier area. The barrier closes automatically.

At the exit, the process is almost the same as at the entrance. The difference is that the driver authenticates with the parking ticket, vehicle registration (STNK), and RFID. A parking attendant then verifies and collects the parking fee.

That is the information on the functions of parking barriers, along with their components and how they work. IT Techno Solutindo has installed and maintained parking barrier systems for Semen Indonesia, PT Pelindo IV, PT Antam, and BBKPM Makassar since 2014. Contact us.
